So a customer of mine bought 3 brand new Precision machines and paid for Office to be preinstalled (they didn't talk to me about this purchase at all which sucks)Anyway Im tasked to set up new AD accounts exchange etc. Normal shit so I realize they have preinstalled office.First off, they install ALL three languages, EN,FR,SPSecond the fucker won't activate, all three machines say the 'key is already in use' now, they have moved to a 'digital activation system' where they don't even give you a card w/ the machine that has a key. So basically I tried to activate w/ the MS account I use for everything for this client and it just says the key is in use.I guess luckily for me they got ripped off by dell and paid for 'pro support' well I call and get some ditzy American girl who sounded like she was from the south. Atleast I could understand her.The trouble here is she knows nothing about office activation or domain environments etc.So I asked for a manager after a bit, and he basically admitted the system MS forced on them to 'digitally activate' these pre-installed copies of office does not work at all.So I ended up asking for a refund for the Office for them since my name is on the dell account and i'll just have them Do O365 I mean you can install it 5 times for $99 a year and you get the new shit every time it comes out.Basically it was a shit show.
Dell has fucked this all to hell and has no clue what to do about any of it.Last year I bought 60 laptops with 2016 installed and they came with keys. Problem was our application wouldn't work with office 2016 at the time, so we wiped them and used our 2010 volume licence.Ok, so a year later we can use 2016 now. I pull out the stack of keys (which are in no way registered to a particular machine even though the dell rep will say they are).

Dell doesn't want to admit to anyone that sometime between late 2015 and late 2016 their Chinese printing partners where stealing the shit out of these keys and selling them off on greyware sites. When you attempt to register these keys, they are already under accounts like ds.@outlook.com.
Either someone is guessing the keys or they are leaking at time of manufacture.It sounds like Dells failure in this situation needs to be publicly broadcast on how bad their office activation with Microsoft performs. They either have a leaker in the company stealing keys (or pre-activations in your case) or their system for distributing keys is so terrible it amounts to criminal negligence. There needs to be some kind of political pressure to convince Dell to change their system and stop defrauding their users. Dell claimed to me that the new 'keyless' (its not really) system was forced on them by MS. That is what an dell pro support 'floor manager' told me after I was done with his inept tech.We got to the point where they conferenced in MS and some indian girl who i could barely understand and had so much background noise in her call center wanted to do a telephone activate. FUCK THAT im not calling MS every time i have to repair office.This girl didn't know ANYTHING other than how to remote in to a machine. I kept asking if she was going to find someone who could fix this and she didn't really say much.Anyway as we type this I signed them up for O365, 5 licenses per $99/year w/ free version updates is pretty cheap imo.
They already have an exchange server in DCand this way I can manage all the licenses without killing my fucking self.
